During the last four decades of the 20th century there was an excellent economical and fertile climate for the advancement of culture of all sorts. Amongst others, especially in the USA, a group of people developed a special interest in the history of “Oyster” in general, and on top of that they enjoy the fresh supply of oysters in the country constantly. It gave rise to a collecting frenzy, the creation of “Oyster collectors clubs” and a lot of enjoyable activities surrounding the subject.
Apart from studying the history of oyster collecting, oyster breeding and oyster consumption, people collected all oyster related objects: posters, post cards, oyster cans, oyster ladles, oyster forks, oyster pails, oyster publicity. But by far, the most searched after objects related to oysters were and still are today “oyster plates”.
This book gives a good introduction and overview of the basic oyster plates to be seen in the field, made in either Belgium or France.
